In recent years the Nike Air Force 1 Low in the all-white and all-black colorways, has become legendary thanks to hip hop, sneakerheads, and the social media algorithms that feed our “FOMO” when we see our friends and connections wearing them. The Air Force 1 has been one of the most popular sneakers in the Nike catalog for decades, but in recent years, designers have looked for ways to revamp the iconic sneaker to make their collaborative versions stand out from the rest. That approach, up until recently, wasn’t even possible because Nike used to keep the most iconic sneakers as close to traditional (design-wise) as possible.
Undercover has been one of Nike’s most frequent collaborators over the past decade and they’ve finally gotten their chance to design a new version of the Nike Air Force 1 Low. As you would expect, Undercover opted to bring a new “technical” approach to the AF1. Replacing the traditional inner lining is a sock liner design that is more commonly associated with the Huarache sneaker line. For the shoe's exterior, a Gore-tex finish ensures that these Air Force 1s are as water and weather resistant as possible. The triple white and triple black color choices land on the more standard side of the AF1’s legacy, but the addition of TPU cages around the heel and adjustable straps across the laces give it a modern and utilitarian look and feel. The overall aesthetic creates a futuristic vibe, that somehow maintains the classic styling of the Air Force 1. Appropriately, the lace dubraes are labeled “Balance” and “Chaos,” which sum up the Undercover x Nike Air Force 1 perfectly.
According to House of Heat, we can look for these to drop before the end of the year on the Nike SNKRS app.
