Awake NY has quickly become one of the biggest players in the sneaker collab game in recent years. Equally as impressive as the unique colorways they’ve created, is the community and celebrities that are consistently seen wearing the brand’s creations. Awake founder Angelo Baque’s newest creation with ASICS is a completely new creation built for the streets of New York City.
The Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC combines pieces of traditional running shoes like the GEL-Nimbus 3, GEL MC-Plus V and GEL-Cumulus 16. Most noticeably, the GEL-NYC uses the upper from the GEL-Nimbus 3 and the tooling from the GEL-Cumulus 16. If you’re looking for the New York City inspiration, think about two of the most legendary hip hop artists from NYC. The bright teal/pink is inspired by Cam’Ron and his famous head-to-toe pink fur photo from back in 2002. The purple/gold pays homage to the famous purple cassette tape of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx album from Raekwon.
