Jordan Brand is constantly releasing new colorways of most of the Jordan signature sneaker line and if we’re being honest, that poses more and more of a challenge as more colorways are created. Do they keep things traditional and offer the OG colorways that many sneaker collectors love, or do they add new colors to the mix that might turn off their long-time supporters? The answer is both. Fresh new colorways give younger sneakerheads a new opportunity to connect with the brand in a way that is relevant to them. Remember, at this point, more young sneaker enthusiasts know Michael Jordan as a crying meme, than they do a former NBA star. Finding the balance can be a challenge but that’s where this week’s Air Jordan 3 Retro comes in.
For this women’s release, the “Black Cement” Air Jordan 3 gets a new twist with the addition of gold accents. With an official colorway that includes the famed Black, Cement Grey, and Fire Red, the addition of the Metallic Gold across the lace holes and the tongue give this AJ3 a luxurious look and feel while still paying homage to the classic colorway that MJ made famous. The Elephant Print material around the ankle and toe maintains its standard grey finish to appease the traditionalists. Finally, the gold hang tag also adds some differentiation from the standard offering as well, in an effort to balance the original and new elements of the “Black Gold” Air Jordan 3 Retro.
According to Just Fresh Kicks, the Air Jordan 3 “Black Gold” drops on October 6th on Nike.com and at select retailers.
