When it comes to the Air Jordan signature line, oftentimes you will hear from sneakerheads that the second signature sneaker for Michael Jordan was one of his worst. Yet, historically speaking, MJ had arguably one of the best seasons in his career wearing the AJ2, including his first NBA Slam Dunk Contest win and a career-best average of 37.1 points per game. Plus, when it comes to the original Air Jordan releases, the allure of the “Made In Italy” Jordan 2 was something the sneaker game had never seen before.
35+ years later, the Air Jordan 2 is finally getting a proper retro release that is as true-to-original as can be, minus the made-in-Italy thing. Today we get a detailed look at the upcoming release thanks to one of the OG Air Jordan collectors and one of the people who helped make this version of the Air Jordan 2 as close to the 1980s original as possible, Sean Collard. Sean has been a proponent of the AJ2 for years, even receiving praise from Virgil Abloh when the release of the Off-White x Air Jordan 2 dropped last year. His attention to detail was credited by Jordan Brand in this year’s release, so you can be sure the shape, stitching, and materials of the AJ2 Retro OG are spot on.
The 2022 Air Jordan 2 “Chicago” release was originally set to land next month but was recently pushed back until December 30th.
