Union is Dropping 3 Nike Cortez Collabs
Sometimes sneakers can come to represent something much bigger than just sneakers and I'm sure you have certain shoes that pop into your head when you read that. The Nike Air Force 1 and New York City, the Foamposite and Baltimore, Reebok Classics and New Orleans, have long been synonymous with each other but when it comes to Los Angeles, no sneaker has been more affiliated with the City of Angels than the Nike Cortez.
I recently spoke with NPR about the importance of the Nike Cortez, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. If a news organization of that size is doing a story on the Nike Cortez it means one of two things, either the shoe is incredibly played out, or it's important enough that people outside of the sneaker game should know about it. You can decide where the Nike Cortez lands for you but Nike is going hard with the shoe for the coming year, including 3 collabs with Union LA.
Although Union has come to be one of the shops that most represents LA, its origins are tied to NYC, and to brands like Supreme and Stussy, but hat's a story for another time. With photos from @apolloluo1976, @woganwodeyang, and @yankeekicks, we now know that 3 Nike Cortez colorways will be dropping this spring as a part of Nike's 50th anniversary celebration. Each colorway appears to use a multicolor aspect to the upper and Nike's Crater Foam cushioning for the iconic waffle sole design. No release date is set but look for these to be priced at $110 when they do release in the coming weeks.
