Nike Is Connecting Baseball and Sneakers With The Dunk

When you think of sneakers, it’s usually basketball, tennis, and skateboarding that are the first sports that come to mind. Nike is setting out to change this with a number of upcoming releases inspired by America’s favorite pastime, baseball.

Later this month, Nike Skateboarding will drop a number of Dunks inspired by some of the most popular teams in baseball but it’s not Nike SB who will be releasing one of the most important Dunks of the year. That honor goes to Nike and the team behind the “Jackie Robinson” Nike Dunk Low. As the first player to “break the color barrier” in baseball back in April of 1947, Jackie Robinson is arguably the most important player to ever set foot on the baseball diamond. Robinson has long been celebrated by footwear brands but often times on less-than-mainstream sneaker models. Last year, Nike worked up a special colorway of the Nike Air Griffey Max, which is surely an iconic sneaker but not one that the general public would go after. The Nike Dunk however, that’s a different story, and Nike took the story telling to new levels with the Jackie Robinson colorway. From the blue hues of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the #42 emblazoned on the side panels to the 75th Anniversary tongue tag and the baseball stitching laces, this Nike Dunk is beyond Throne-Worthy.

According to Sneaker News, The Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson” is set to release on the SNKRS App and at select retailers Tuesday, July 19th, the same day as Major League Baseball’s 2022 All-Star Game.
