The number 23 has always been significant for Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand. This month they are kicking off a year-long effort of exclusive releases and partnerships, starting to celebrate their “Jordan Year." The first release is an auction benefitting the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, aka the Notorious B.I.G., in partnership with Sotheby’s. In 2017, these sneakers were designed to honor Biggie's 45th birthday but now they've been made available again as a tribute to 50 years since hip hop began and in celebration of self-belief.
Paying homage to the late Biggie Smalls, these sneakers boast an impressive array of design elements alluding to his legacy and music, including a silhouette of his image on their tongues, "It Was All A Dream"/"If You Don't Know Now You Know" stampings as well quotes from “Juicy” inscribed into aglets and insoles. These versatile kicks also feature bold black hues with pockmarked overlays & suede mudguards for added texture - completed with plaid patterns and Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation branding in red font.
23 pairs are now up for bidding at Sotheby’s now through February 3, 2023. All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, which aims to empower inner-city youth with educational tools, grants, mentorship programs, and sponsorships.
