When the pandemic hit in early 2020, it seemed like the entire world took a pause. Looking back, it was the perfect timing for the release of Netflix’s The Last Dance. Because we were all at home, it seemed like every person who had the slightest interest in the legendary championship-era Chicago Bulls was tuned in for every new episode the moment it was released. Not only was the show a great boost to our collective energies while we were stuck at home, but it also jumpstarted the sneaker game’s focus on Air Jordans, and drove prices through the roof.
Three years later, a new film is poised to help bring some much-needed energy to the game this April. “AIR” is a film directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Convery. The film stars Matt Damon and Affleck alongside Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis. It tells the story of the early days of Nike’s relationship with Michael Jordan, a time when the company was struggling to find success and ultimately took a huge risk in signing Michael Jordan to the most lucrative sneaker contract ever (at the time).
Check out the official trailer below and look for AIR in theaters on April 5th, 2023.
