This New Balance Was Designed By A Yeezy Designer

Most of the people reading this weren't around 40 years ago but these old "dad shoes" that New Balance first released in 1989 are a part of a much larger celebration in 2022, and have an even deeper connection to modern sneakerheads than many people even realize. This year New Balance celebrate 40 years of manufacturing their legendary "Made In England" sneakers from their world famous Flimby factory. One of the iconic models to come from the workers at the Flimby New Balance location is the Made In England 1500, originally designed by Steven Smith, who now serves as Yeezy Brand Design Director.

In addition to the New Balance 1500, Smith has also designed other New Balance classics like the 574 and the 997. Even if you are not a fan of NB, you likely have a pair of Steven Smith designed sneakers in your closet. Some of his other creations include the Reebok Pump Fury, Nike Zoom Streak and Spiridon Cage, the Grant Hill line from Fila, and of course, modern Yeezys like the Foam Runner, Wave Runner, and countless others. With its global success and its ties to the Flimby production facility, the New Balance 1500 remains one of Smith's most globally appreciated and celebrated designs. While colorways are countless at this point, the classic New Balance grey with white and navy blue accents is nothing short of iconic.
