Alexander "Sandy" Bodecker may not be a household name, but his legacy is undeniable. The former Nike employee and VP of Special Projects left an indelible mark on the industry before he passed away in 2018 at age 66. Bodecker’s influence on the Nike Skateboarding brand was so impactful that his friends at Nike used to say that the “SB” in Nike SB actually stood for Sandy Bodecker.
Today, Nike SB has unveiled an exclusive collaboration with eBay to celebrate 20 years since their iconic SB Dunk Low and honor Bodecker’s legacy with a charity auction for 10 box sets of the new version of the eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low.
To understand the new eBay Dunks, we have to go back two decades to the partnership's origins in 2003 to the birth of a genuinely game-changing collaboration between eBay and Nike SB, the original "eBay Dunks". This unique version not only drummed up major hype in both sneaker and skateboarding circles, but it also had an impact for good as all proceeds were donated to Portland's Tim Brauch Foundation to help build skateparks around the city.
Two pairs were made, one for the auction, and the other was sawed into 4 pieces to guarantee the winning bidder had the only pair. The auction ended at a final price of around $30,000 and the winning bidder was shrouded in mystery until Sandy Bodecker rocked them at a special event years later.

This year, Nike and the Bodecker Foundation have joined forces to launch an incredible auction with eBay to retell one of the most important sneakers ever made. 10 collectors' edition tribute pairs based off of Sandy's original prize with a commemorative saw, card numbered out of 10, and most impressively, they are all stored in skateable shoe boxes! All funds raised through this initiative will benefit the objectives set forth by The Bodecker Foundation: providing creative youth around the world with resources to turn their dreams into realities.
You can see the auctions at https://www.ebay.com/sbdunk and you will have a chance to grab the general release edition, without the insane packaging, when the eBay x Nike SB Dunk drops at skate shops on December 15th and on the SNKRS app on December 17th.
For those in Sandy Bodecker’s hometown of Portland, Oregon, eBay and Nike are also dropping a number of SB Dunk colorways for the original 2002 price of the Dunk, $65. There is a catch, you will have to lace them up and skate them out of the store. The Skate 'Em Out Store is located at 2360 NW Quimby Street in Portland and is open between 11 am PST and 6 pm PST on December 9th & 10th.
