On a recent earnings call, adidas CEO & Head of Global Brands, Bjorn Gulden shared some details on the new direction The Three Stripes is headed. In regard to the ongoing situation with the former Yeezy line, the brand plans to sell off the estimated one billion dollars worth of inventory and donate the money to charity, after paying Ye 15% royalties on any sales. The more interesting news from the call was the announcement of the upcoming launch of the highly anticipated Fear of God x adidas collaborations.
If you didn’t know, Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God brand announced a partnership with adidas back in 2020. The news came after rumors of a falling out between Nike and Jerry Lorenzo over creative freedoms. The announcement of Lorenzo’s partnership with adidas was followed by the news that Fear of God would be working on performance basketball and that the adidas Basketball department would be moving its offices from the Portland, Oregon campus, down to Los Angeles, home of the Fear of God brand.
Officially, the Fear of God x adidas line will launch with the Basketball 1 performance shoe and according to Gulden, will be followed by the Basketball 2, and Basketball 3. In addition to the performance basketball shoes, a number of other sneakers, performance and lifestyle apparel, will also be seen on NBA athletes next season. Despite the lack of creativity in the names of the upcoming basketball shoes, the designs have a distinct look and feel that separates them from anything else in the adidas basketball line. They also have a very Fear of God aesthetic that seems to have sneakerheads more interested than not.
According to Nice Kicks, we can expect to start seeing the first releases from the Fear of God x adidas partnership release later this year.
